Symptoms
- Check Engine Light
- Engine overheating
- Cooling fan not turning on
- Poor A/C performance
- Burning smell in severe cases
Common causes
- Faulty cooling fan motor
- Failed cooling fan relay
- Wiring damage to fan circuit
- Defective cooling fan control module
- Blown fan fuse
- PCM driver failure
Diagnostic steps
- Check cooling fan fuse(s)
- Test cooling fan relay
- Command fan on with scan tool
- Test fan motor by applying direct power
- Inspect wiring to fan motor
- Test fan control module (if equipped)
