What this code means

The Mass Air Flow sensor signal is intermittent. The PCM has detected an erratic or fluctuating signal from the MAF sensor that drops in and out. This can cause inconsistent air/fuel mixture calculations.

Symptoms

• Check Engine Light
• Intermittent rough idle
• Hesitation on acceleration
• Stalling
• Erratic fuel economy

Common causes

• Loose MAF sensor connector
• Damaged MAF sensor wiring
• Dirty MAF sensor element
• Cracked air intake tube allowing unmetered air
• Failing MAF sensor

Diagnostic steps

1. Inspect MAF sensor connector for looseness or corrosion
2. Wiggle test MAF wiring while monitoring live data
3. Inspect air intake tube for cracks or loose clamps
4. Clean MAF sensor with MAF-specific cleaner
5. Monitor MAF sensor readings on scan tool for erratic behavior
