Parts
- Driver side headlight assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
- Passenger side headlight assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off all lights and remove key from ignition
- Allow headlights to cool if recently used
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- If disconnecting battery, disconnect negative terminal first using 10mm socket
Procedure
- 1Access driver side headlight assemblyLocate the headlight assembly mounting area behind the driver side headlight. You may need to move or temporarily relocate the windshield washer fluid reservoir for better access. The reservoir is held by clips and does not need to be completely removed, just shifted aside.
- 2Disconnect driver side electrical connectorsLocate the main headlight harness connector at the rear of the headlight assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight back to disconnect. If equipped with daytime running lights or additional lighting, disconnect those connectors as well. There are typically 2-3 connectors per headlight assembly depending on trim level.⚠Do not pull on wires, only on connector bodies to avoid damaging wiring harness
- 3Remove driver side headlight mounting boltsLocate the three headlight assembly mounting bolts. Two bolts are positioned along the top edge of the headlight assembly (accessible from under the hood), and one bolt is located on the outboard side near the fender. Use an 8mm socket to remove all three mounting bolts. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.
- 4Remove driver side headlight assemblyCarefully pull the headlight assembly forward and away from the vehicle. The assembly has alignment pins at the bottom that engage the bumper cover, so you may need to wiggle it slightly while pulling forward. Once the pins are clear, remove the assembly completely and set aside on a protected surface.⚠Support the assembly while removing to prevent it from falling and cracking the lens
- 5Access passenger side headlight assemblyMove to the passenger side of the vehicle. The air filter housing may restrict access slightly but does not typically require removal. Identify the headlight mounting bolts and electrical connectors in the same positions as the driver side.
- 6Disconnect passenger side electrical connectorsPress the release tabs on each electrical connector and disconnect them from the rear of the passenger headlight assembly. As with the driver side, there will be 2-3 connectors depending on equipment level. Set connectors aside where they will not be damaged.
- 7Remove passenger side headlight mounting boltsUsing an 8mm socket, remove the three mounting bolts securing the passenger side headlight assembly. Two bolts are along the top edge and one is on the outboard side near the fender, matching the driver side configuration.
- 8Remove passenger side headlight assemblyPull the passenger headlight assembly forward, disengaging the lower alignment pins from the bumper cover. Remove the assembly completely from the vehicle and place on a protected surface to avoid scratching the lens.
- 9Prepare new headlight assembliesUnpack new headlight assemblies and inspect for shipping damage. Verify that all bulbs are properly seated if pre-installed, or transfer bulbs from old assemblies to new ones if required. Ensure gaskets and seals are properly positioned on the new assemblies.
- 10Install new driver side headlight assemblyPosition the new driver side headlight assembly and align the lower pins with their slots in the bumper cover. Push the assembly rearward until it is fully seated against the mounting surface. Ensure the assembly sits flush before installing bolts.
- 11Secure driver side headlight mounting boltsInstall all three mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper threading. Once all bolts are started, tighten them in a cross-pattern using an 8mm socket. Torque bolts to manufacturer specification to ensure even pressure on the assembly without cracking the housing.
- 12Connect driver side electrical connectorsReconnect all electrical connectors to the driver side headlight assembly, ensuring each connector clicks into place securely. Verify that connector locking tabs are fully engaged and that wiring is not pinched or stretched.
- 13Install new passenger side headlight assemblyAlign the passenger side headlight assembly with the lower pins and mounting holes. Push rearward until fully seated against the body, ensuring proper alignment before installing mounting bolts.
- 14Secure passenger side headlight mounting boltsInstall and hand-tighten all three mounting bolts on the passenger side headlight assembly. Tighten in a cross-pattern using an 8mm socket to distribute pressure evenly across the mounting surface.
- 15Connect passenger side electrical connectorsReconnect all electrical connectors to the passenger side headlight assembly. Verify positive engagement of all locking tabs and ensure wiring routes are clear of moving components and heat sources.
Reassembly
- If windshield washer reservoir was moved, reposition it and ensure it is properly clipped in place
- If battery was disconnected, reconnect negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft) using Battery Terminal Bolts specification
- Ensure all wiring connectors are secure and no tools or parts are left in engine compartment
- Close hood securely
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine and verify all headlight functions work (low beam, high beam, turn signals, parking lights)
- Start engine and verify daytime running lights function if equipped
- Test all headlight modes including high beam and verify proper operation
- Inspect headlight assembly alignment and ensure both assemblies sit flush with body panels with even gaps
- Check for any warning lights on instrument cluster related to lighting systems
- Perform a nighttime test drive to verify proper beam pattern and aim; adjust headlight aim if necessary using adjustment screws on rear of assemblies
