This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the audio amplifier in a 2024 Rivian EDV 500 electric delivery van, typically located in the cargo area or under the driver's seat.
Warnings
⚠️Disconnect 12V battery before beginning work to prevent electrical shorts and system damage. Wait 5 minutes after disconnection for capacitors to discharge.
⚠The amplifier may be connected to high-voltage system monitoring circuits. Do not attempt to service if any orange high-voltage cables are visible or accessible in the work area.
⚠Mark or photograph all connector orientations before disconnection to ensure proper reinstallation.
ℹ️The amplifier location may vary by trim level. Common locations are under the driver's seat, behind the driver's side cargo panel, or under the rear cargo floor.

Parts
- Audio amplifier assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Trim panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Cable ties × 1 — Standard automotive cable ties
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Power down vehicle completely and remove key fob from cabin
- Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery located in the front compartment
- Wait minimum 5 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
- Locate the amplifier position (check under driver's seat or cargo area panels)
- Take photos of all wiring connections and mounting positions for reference
- Ensure work area is clear and well-lit
Procedure
- 1Access amplifier locationRemove the driver's seat by unbolting the four seat rail mounting bolts using a Torx T30 or T50 driver. Tilt seat backward and disconnect the seat wiring harness underneath. If amplifier is in cargo area, remove the appropriate side panel or floor access panel using trim removal tools to release clips.⚠Driver's seat contains airbag components. Handle seat wiring connectors carefully and do not allow seat to hang by wiring.
- 2Identify amplifier and connectionsLocate the amplifier unit, typically a rectangular metal or plastic housing approximately 8x10 inches. Identify all electrical connectors (typically 2-4 large multi-pin connectors) and mounting bolts or brackets. Take detailed photos from multiple angles showing connector positions and wire routing.
- 3Disconnect amplifier power connectorLocate the main power connector (typically the largest connector with red/black heavy gauge wires). Press or pull the connector lock tab and carefully disconnect the power connector from the amplifier. Do not pull on wires, only pull on the connector body itself.⚠Verify 12V battery is disconnected. Even with battery disconnected, amplifier capacitors may hold residual charge.
- 4Disconnect speaker output connectorsRelease locking tabs on speaker output connectors (typically 2-3 connectors with multiple small gauge wires). Carefully disconnect each speaker harness connector, noting the position and orientation of each. Keep connectors organized to prevent confusion during reassembly.
- 5Disconnect communication and signal connectorsDisconnect any remaining connectors including fiber optic audio connections (if equipped), CAN bus communication connectors, and audio input signal connectors. For fiber optic connectors, depress release button and pull straight out to avoid damaging fiber optic cable.⚠Fiber optic cables are fragile. Do not bend sharply or allow dirt to contact the optical connectors.
- 6Remove amplifier mounting fastenersRemove all mounting bolts or screws securing the amplifier to the vehicle structure. Typically 3-4 bolts using 8mm, 10mm socket, or T25/T30 Torx. Note the location of any ground wire terminals that may be under bolt heads. Support amplifier while removing final fastener.
- 7Remove amplifier from vehicleCarefully maneuver the amplifier out of its mounting location, being careful not to snag wiring or damage surrounding components. If amplifier is mounted in a tight location under seat, tilt or angle as needed to clear obstructions. Remove any cable ties or wire loom securing amplifier wiring to vehicle structure.
- 8Prepare new amplifierRemove new amplifier from packaging and compare with old unit to verify correct replacement part. Check that all connector types match and mounting hole locations align. If amplifier has protective covers or shipping plugs on connectors, remove them. Do not remove any pre-applied thermal compound or mounting pads.
- 9Install new amplifierPosition new amplifier into mounting location, ensuring any ground terminals are properly positioned and heat sink surfaces (if present) are not obstructed. Align mounting holes and start all mounting bolts by hand before tightening. Tighten mounting bolts in a cross pattern to factory specification, or snug if torque spec not available.
- 10Reconnect all electrical connectorsReconnect all electrical connectors in reverse order of removal, referring to photos taken earlier. Ensure each connector is fully seated and locking tabs engage with an audible click. Start with communication connectors, then signal inputs, speaker outputs, and finally power connector. Verify no pins are bent or misaligned before pushing connectors together.
- 11Secure wiring and verify installationReplace any cable ties that were removed, routing wiring in original paths to prevent chafing or interference. Ensure no wires are pinched or under tension. Double-check that all connectors are fully engaged and locked. Verify amplifier is securely mounted with no movement.
- 12Reinstall access panels and componentsIf driver's seat was removed, reconnect seat wiring harness and position seat on rails. Install and tighten seat mounting bolts in cross pattern. If cargo panels were removed, align clips and press firmly to engage. Ensure all trim panels are flush and secure.
Reassembly
- Verify all tools and parts have been removed from work area
- Ensure all trim panels and seats are properly secured with no gaps or loose clips
- Check that all wiring is routed away from moving parts or sharp edges
- Reconnect 12V auxiliary battery with positive terminal first, then negative
Verification
- Power on vehicle and wait for infotainment system to fully boot up
- Check for any warning messages or fault codes related to audio system
- Test all speakers individually using audio balance/fader controls to verify proper operation
- Test audio at various volume levels to ensure amplifier is functioning without distortion or cutouts
- Verify subwoofer operation if equipped
- Test all audio sources (radio, streaming, Bluetooth) to confirm full functionality
- If amplifier failure warnings persist, use diagnostic scan tool to check for amplifier communication faults
- Test drive vehicle briefly to verify no rattles or loose components in work area
