- Fog light wiring harness connector seal (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Bumper trim clips (if damaged) × 5 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Turn off the vehicle and remove the key fob from the cabin.
- Open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V auxiliary battery located in the front compartment.
- If working on the driver side fog light, turn the steering wheel fully to the right for better access. For passenger side, turn fully to the left.
- Ensure adequate lighting in the work area for viewing connections behind the bumper.
Procedure
- 1Access the fog light areaLocate the fog light assembly on the front bumper. Identify the lower front bumper trim panel that provides access to the fog light mounting area. The fog light is integrated into the lower front fascia on the Rivian EDV 500.
- 2Remove wheel well liner clipsUsing the plastic trim removal tool, carefully pry out the push-pin style clips securing the front portion of the wheel well liner to the bumper. Remove approximately 3-4 clips on the side where you are working to create access to the rear of the fog light assembly. Pull the liner back gently to expose the fog light mounting area.
- 3Disconnect the fog light electrical connectorReach behind the bumper assembly through the wheel well opening and locate the fog light electrical connector. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect it from the fog light assembly. Inspect the connector seal for damage or corrosion.
- 4Remove fog light mounting fastenersLocate the fog light assembly mounting fasteners. There are typically two T25 Torx screws or 10mm bolts securing the fog light to the bumper bracket. Remove these fasteners completely and retain them for reinstallation. Support the fog light with one hand as you remove the final fastener.
- 5Extract the fog light assemblyCarefully pull the fog light assembly forward and outward from the bumper opening. The assembly may have alignment tabs that need to be angled slightly to clear the bumper opening. Guide the electrical connector through the opening as you remove the assembly. Inspect the mounting location for debris or damage.
- 6Prepare the new fog light assemblyRemove the new fog light assembly from its packaging. Verify that any protective film or covers have been removed from the lens. Check that all mounting tabs are intact and that the assembly matches the original unit in size and connector type.
- 7Install the new fog light assemblyFeed the electrical connector through the bumper opening first. Align the fog light assembly with the mounting bracket, ensuring any alignment tabs engage properly with the bumper slots. Push the assembly firmly into position until it seats flush with the bumper surface.
- 8Secure the fog light mounting fastenersInstall the T25 Torx screws or 10mm bolts through the fog light mounting holes. Start both fasteners by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Tighten the fasteners evenly in a cross pattern to secure the fog light assembly. Ensure the fog light is properly aligned with the bumper contour before final tightening.
- 9Reconnect the electrical connectorConnect the electrical connector to the fog light assembly by aligning the connector and pushing firmly until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked in place. Ensure no wires are pinched or stressed.
- 10Reinstall wheel well linerPosition the wheel well liner back into its original location. Reinstall all push-pin clips by pressing them firmly into their mounting holes until they are fully seated. Ensure the liner is properly aligned and does not interfere with the fog light assembly or any moving components.
- 11Reconnect the 12V batteryReturn to the front compartment and reconnect the negative terminal of the 12V auxiliary battery. Tighten the terminal connection securely. Close the hood.
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim clips are fully seated and the wheel well liner is secure.
- Verify that no tools or parts were left in the bumper or wheel well area.
- Check that the fog light lens is clean and free of fingerprints or debris.
Verification
- Turn the vehicle to the ON position and activate the fog lights using the lighting control switch.
- Walk to the front of the vehicle and verify that the newly installed fog light illuminates properly with correct intensity and beam pattern.
- Verify that the fog light is securely mounted with no gaps between the assembly and bumper.
- Turn the fog lights off and on several times to confirm reliable operation.
- Check for any error messages or warning lights on the instrument cluster related to the lighting system.
- Perform a visual inspection to confirm proper alignment of the fog light with the opposite side.
