Parts

  • Side mirror assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Door trim panel clips (if damaged) — Use OEM specification
  • Mirror mounting seal/gasket × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on a level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect the 12V auxiliary battery located in the front compartment to prevent electrical shorts
  3. Wait 2 minutes after battery disconnection to allow capacitors to discharge
  4. Lower the front windows to provide access to door panel mounting points
  5. Apply masking tape around the mirror base to protect paint during removal

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove door trim panel lower section
Using the trim panel removal tool, carefully pry the lower door trim panel starting from the rear bottom corner. Work your way forward, releasing each clip. There are approximately 8-10 clips securing the lower panel. Pull the panel away from the door frame once all clips are released.
  2. 2
    Access mirror mounting area
Locate the small triangular trim piece at the front upper corner of the door where the mirror mounts. Using the trim panel removal tool, gently pry this trim panel away from the door. It is secured by 2-3 clips. Set the trim piece aside in a safe location.
  3. 3
    Disconnect mirror electrical connectors
Identify the main mirror harness connector behind the trim panel. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out. There will be one primary connector for mirror motor, heating element, turn signal, and camera functions. Note the connector orientation for reassembly.
  4. 4
    Remove mirror adjustment access cover
If present, remove the small plastic cover on the interior door panel that provides access to the mirror mounting bolts. This may be a snap-fit cover or secured with a small T20 Torx screw.
  5. 5
    Support the mirror assembly
From outside the vehicle, support the mirror assembly with one hand to prevent it from falling once the mounting fasteners are removed. Have an assistant help or use painter's tape to temporarily secure the mirror.
  6. 6
    Remove mirror mounting fasteners
Using the T25 Torx driver or 10mm socket, remove the three mounting bolts securing the mirror base to the door. These bolts are accessed from inside the door cavity. Keep fasteners organized for reinstallation.
  7. 7
    Remove mirror assembly
Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door, feeding the electrical harness through the opening. Remove the mirror completely and inspect the mounting surface and seal for damage.
  8. 8
    Inspect and clean mounting surface
Clean the mirror mounting area on the door with a microfiber cloth. Remove any old sealant or debris. Inspect the door paint for damage and the mounting holes for integrity.
  9. 9
    Prepare new mirror assembly
Remove the new mirror from packaging. Verify all electrical connections match the original. Install the new mounting seal/gasket onto the mirror base if not pre-installed. Ensure the gasket is properly seated.
  10. 10
    Install new mirror assembly
Feed the electrical harness through the door opening from outside. Align the mirror base with the three mounting holes on the door. Guide the mirror into position, ensuring the gasket seats properly against the door surface.
  11. 11
    Install mounting fasteners
From inside the door cavity, thread the three mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Once all bolts are started, tighten them in a star pattern to ensure even pressure. Tighten securely but do not overtighten as the mounting surface is designed to compress the gasket seal.
  12. 12
    Connect electrical harness
Connect the mirror electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connector is fully seated and secure.
  13. 13
    Reinstall interior trim panels
Replace the triangular mirror trim panel by aligning the clips and pressing firmly until all clips engage. Reinstall the door trim panel by aligning the clips and pressing along the perimeter until secure. Reinstall any access covers removed earlier.
  14. 14
    Reconnect 12V battery
Reconnect the 12V auxiliary battery in the front compartment. Ensure the connection is secure and the terminal is properly tightened.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all trim panels are fully seated with no gaps or misalignment
  2. Verify all electrical connectors are locked in place
  3. Remove any masking tape applied during preparation
  4. Check that mirror mounting gasket provides a weather-tight seal

Verification

  • Power on the vehicle and test mirror adjustment in all directions using the interior mirror control switch
  • Verify mirror heating function operates (allow 2-3 minutes to feel warmth on mirror surface)
  • Check that turn signal indicator illuminates in the mirror housing
  • Test camera functionality if equipped with camera-based driver assistance systems
  • Inspect for any water leaks around mirror base after washing or during rain
  • If camera-equipped, schedule dealer recalibration of driver assistance systems if warning messages appear on instrument cluster
