Parts
- Front window regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Window motor (if not included with regulator) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door panel clips (replacement set) × 1 — Rivian OEM door panel clip kit
- Vapor barrier adhesive tape × 1 — Use OEM specification if barrier is damaged
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
- Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery located in rear cargo area (EDV 500 specific location).
- Wait 2 minutes for electrical system capacitors to discharge.
- Roll window to approximately mid-height position for easiest access (if motor still functions).
- Protect door and surrounding areas with fender covers.
Procedure
- 1Remove door panelRemove T25 Torx screws securing door pull handle and switch panel assembly. Disconnect electrical connector from window switch module by pressing tab and pulling rearward. Using trim removal tools, carefully pry door panel clips starting from bottom rear corner and working around perimeter. Lift door panel upward to disengage from window sill channel and remove from door.
- 2Remove speaker assemblyLocate speaker assembly in lower door section. Remove three T30 Torx screws securing speaker bracket. Disconnect speaker electrical connector by pressing release tab. Remove speaker assembly to provide access to regulator mounting points.
- 3Peel back vapor barrierCarefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier starting at the bottom edge to expose the window regulator and motor assembly. Take care not to tear the barrier as it will need to be resealed. If necessary, use a heat gun on low setting to soften adhesive.
- 4Mark and support window glassApply masking tape to mark the current position of the window glass relative to the door frame. Have an assistant support the window glass from inside and outside, or use window glass support props. This prevents the glass from falling once disconnected from the regulator.
- 5Disconnect window from regulatorRemove the two 10mm bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift channel through the access holes in the door frame. Carefully slide the window glass upward and out of the regulator channel. Secure the glass in the fully up position using masking tape between the glass and door frame.
- 6Disconnect motor electrical connectorLocate the window motor electrical connector mounted on the motor housing. Press the connector release tab and pull connector straight off the motor. On EDV 500 models, this connector may have a secondary lock that must be lifted before disconnection.
- 7Remove regulator mounting fastenersRemove the three 10mm bolts securing the window regulator track to the door frame. Remove the three 8mm bolts securing the window motor to the mounting plate. Note the position and orientation of any spacers or shims for reinstallation.
- 8Remove regulator assemblyCarefully maneuver the window regulator and motor assembly out through the large access opening in the door frame. The regulator will need to be rotated and angled to clear the door structure. Take care not to snag wiring harnesses or damage the vapor barrier during removal.
- 9Transfer components if necessaryIf the new regulator does not include the motor, transfer the motor from the old regulator to the new one. If replacing only the motor, remove it from the old regulator using the 8mm mounting bolts and install on the existing regulator.
- 10Install new regulator assemblyRoute the new regulator assembly into the door through the access opening, carefully maneuvering it into position. Align the regulator track mounting holes with the door frame and install the three 10mm mounting bolts finger tight. Align the motor mounting holes and install the three 8mm bolts finger tight.
- 11Torque fasteners and connect motorTighten the regulator track mounting bolts to proper specification in a cross pattern to ensure even alignment. Tighten motor mounting bolts to specification. Reconnect the window motor electrical connector, ensuring the secondary lock clicks into place if equipped.
- 12Reinstall window glassRemove tape securing glass in up position. Carefully lower the window glass into the door cavity and align it with the regulator lift channel. Insert the glass mounting studs into the regulator channel brackets. Install the two 10mm bolts through the access holes and torque to specification. Verify glass moves smoothly before proceeding.
- 13Test window operationReconnect the 12V auxiliary battery. Using the window switch, test full up and down operation of the window multiple times. Verify smooth operation with no binding, unusual noise, or slow movement. Check window auto-up and auto-down functions if equipped. If window operation is erratic, perform window relearn procedure per Rivian service manual.
Reassembly
- Reseal the vapor barrier to the door frame using appropriate adhesive tape, ensuring complete seal around all edges.
- Reinstall speaker assembly with three T30 Torx screws and reconnect electrical connector.
- Align door panel with window sill channel and press firmly around perimeter to engage all clips.
- Reinstall door pull handle and switch panel with T25 Torx screws and reconnect switch electrical connector.
- Replace any broken door panel clips during reassembly to ensure proper panel retention.
Verification
- Test window operation through full travel multiple times in both directions.
- Verify window auto-up and auto-down features function correctly (if equipped).
- Check that window seals properly against weatherstripping in the full up position.
- Verify no unusual noises, binding, or slow operation during window movement.
- Confirm door panel is securely fastened with no loose clips or rattles.
- Test window one-touch operation and anti-pinch feature if equipped.
