Replace a front brake caliper on a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast. The Cybertruck uses massive front calipers paired with the truck's 48V architecture and air suspension; calipers themselves are conventional hydraulic units, but vehicle handling (lifting, jack mode) is Tesla-specific.
Warnings
⚠️Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage system — connectors and battery are not interchangeable with 12V Tesla parts. Confirm system is fully de-energized before any electrical work.
⚠️Do NOT touch, cut, or pierce any orange cable. The Cybertruck uses an 800V HV system — contact is lethal.
⚠Cybertruck is extremely heavy. Use a jack and stands rated for its curb weight and only lift at manufacturer-specified jack points. Place vehicle in Jack/Service Mode via the touchscreen to disable air suspension self-leveling before lifting.
⚠Steer-by-wire: there is no mechanical steering linkage. Avoid forcing the front wheels by hand with the system powered; keep the vehicle powered down during caliper work.
⚠Stainless exoskeleton panels mar easily — protect fender edges with covers; do not lever tools against body panels.
ℹ️Brake fluid damages paint and stainless finish — clean any spills immediately with water.
ℹ️Tesla recommends brake fluid replacement every 2 years regardless of mileage. If fluid is due, perform a full flush after caliper replacement.

Fluids
- DOT 3 Brake Fluid (Tesla specification) — 1 qt
Preparation
- Park on level ground, place in P, and engage the parking brake.
- Exit ALL doors with the key fob away from the vehicle. Wait at least 2 minutes for HV systems to fully de-energize, even on this non-HV job.
- Disconnect the low-voltage battery. NOTE: Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage architecture (not 12V) — use the manufacturer-specified disconnect procedure and appropriate PPE; do not assume 12V tooling/connectors apply.
- DO NOT touch, cut, or pierce ANY orange cable — these are high-voltage and lethal.
- If at any point you encounter an orange cable, an HV component, or are unsure if a system is de-energized: STOP and consult a Tesla-certified technician.
- Before lifting: enter the touchscreen Service/Jack Mode to disable air suspension auto-leveling. Confirm the suspension has stopped adjusting.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts while the vehicle is on the ground.
- Lift the front of the vehicle at the manufacturer-specified jack points using a jack and stands rated for Cybertruck weight. Never work under the vehicle supported only by a jack.
- Remove the front wheel and set it aside on a non-marring surface (protect stainless panels).
- Open the brake fluid reservoir cap briefly to relieve any pressure, then re-cap to limit moisture ingress; place absorbent rags below the caliper area to catch fluid.
Procedure
- 1Inspect and documentPhotograph the caliper, brake hose routing, banjo orientation, and any anti-rattle clips or shims. Note left vs right side. Confirm the replacement caliper matches the side and configuration.
- 2Disconnect any caliper-related sensorsIf a brake pad wear sensor or temperature sensor is fitted, unclip the harness from the caliper/bracket and free it from any retainers. Do not pull on wiring.
- 3Disconnect the brake hose at the banjo fittingPosition a drip pan. Using a line/flare-style wrench, loosen and remove the brake hose banjo bolt at the caliper. Discard the two copper sealing washers — they must not be reused. Cap or plug the hose to minimize fluid loss and contamination.⚠Brake fluid is corrosive to paint and finishes. Catch all drips and clean spills immediately.
- 4Remove caliper guide/mounting boltsSupport the caliper body. Remove the caliper guide/mounting bolts that secure the caliper to the bracket. If your configuration uses a one-piece fixed caliper that bolts directly to the knuckle, skip to step 5.
- 5Remove the caliper (and bracket if required)Lift the caliper off the rotor. If replacing the entire caliper assembly including the bracket, remove the two caliper bracket bolts from the steering knuckle. Support the caliper — do not let it hang by the brake hose. Use a hanger to suspend it if temporary support is needed.⚠Front caliper assembly on Cybertruck is heavy — use two hands and a hanger to avoid dropping it onto the rotor or hub.Torque specCaliper Bracket Bolts120 Nm (88 lb-ft)
- 6Transfer pads / hardware as applicableIf the new caliper does not include pads and anti-rattle hardware, transfer them from the old caliper. Inspect pads for wear; replace as a set across the axle if near or below minimum thickness.
- 7Install the new caliper bracket (if removed)Clean the knuckle mating surface. Apply medium-strength threadlocker to the caliper bracket bolt threads (unless pre-applied). Install bolts and torque to specification.Torque specCaliper Bracket Bolts120 Nm (88 lb-ft)
- 8Mount the new caliperPosition the new caliper over the rotor with pads correctly seated. Install the caliper mounting/guide bolts (with threadlocker if specified) and torque to specification.
- 9Reconnect the brake hose with NEW copper washersInstall NEW copper sealing washers on each side of the banjo fitting. Thread the banjo bolt by hand to avoid cross-threading, then torque to specification. Confirm the hose is not twisted and routes cleanly without contact with suspension or tire.⚠Never reuse copper washers — they will leak under pressure.
- 10Reconnect sensor harnessReconnect any pad wear/temperature sensor and re-secure the harness in its original retainers, clear of rotating and hot components.
- 11Bleed the caliperTop up the reservoir with fresh DOT 3 brake fluid. Bleed the caliper at the bleeder screw using a vacuum or pressure bleeder, or two-person pedal method, until clean fluid free of air emerges. Torque the bleeder screw to specification — do not overtighten. Maintain reservoir level throughout. If brake fluid service interval (2 years) is due, perform a full system flush in the manufacturer-recommended sequence.⚠Verify correct bleed sequence in the Tesla Service Manual. Do not allow the reservoir to run dry — this will introduce air to the master cylinder/booster.Torque specBleeder Screw10 Nm (7 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Verify reservoir is at the correct level with fresh DOT 3 fluid; cap the reservoir.
- Reinstall the front wheel. Hand-thread all lug nuts before applying torque.
- Lower the vehicle to the ground and torque the wheel lug nuts in a star pattern to specification.
- Reconnect the 48V low-voltage battery using the manufacturer-specified procedure.
- Exit Service/Jack Mode via the touchscreen and allow air suspension to re-level.
- With the vehicle stationary and engine/drive off, pump the brake pedal repeatedly until firm before any movement.
Verification
- Confirm a firm, high brake pedal before driving — if pedal sinks, re-bleed the system.
- Inspect banjo fitting and bleeder screw for any weeping after pedal pressure is applied and held.
- Check reservoir level and top up to MAX with fresh DOT 3 fluid.
- Drive slowly in a safe area and perform progressive low-speed stops to seat the pads. Listen/feel for pull, vibration, or unusual noise.
- After test drive, recheck the caliper and hose connection for leaks and recheck reservoir level.
- Check the touchscreen for any new brake-related alerts (ABS, ESC, Brake Booster). Resolve any DTCs before returning the vehicle to service.
- Record the service date — Tesla recommends brake fluid replacement every 2 years regardless of mileage; schedule the next flush accordingly.
