Removal and reinstallation of a front door interior trim panel (door card) on a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck. The Cybertruck's door panels integrate the speaker grille, switch pack, and pull handle and are retained by hidden fasteners and push-pin clips behind trim covers.

Warnings

⚠️Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage system — NOT 12V. The LV battery must be disconnected before unplugging any door harness. Shorting 48V can arc-weld tools and cause burns.
⚠️Do NOT pry near or disturb any orange high-voltage cabling. If you see orange, stop.
The door panel contains the window switch pack, tweeter, mid-range speaker, ambient lighting, and on driver's side the door-release/mirror controls. All connectors must be released before pulling the panel free or you will rip the harness.
Cybertruck doors use electronic releases. With the LV battery disconnected, the interior electronic release will not function — open the door BEFORE disconnecting the battery, and do not close it fully until reassembly is complete.
ℹ️Stainless exoskeleton: do not strike the door shell with a hammer or pry against the outer skin — fingerprints and scratches on stainless are very visible and cannot be polished out like paint.

Tools required

Plastic / nylon trim removal tool set (wide and narrow blades)Essential
Torx bit set (T20, T25, T30)Essential
Phillips #2 screwdriver
Small pick / dental hook for connector locksEssential
1/4" drive torque wrench (2-30 Nm range)Essential
Soft blanket or moving pad to protect door card face
Insulated gloves (for 48V LV battery disconnect)Essential

Parts

  • Replacement door panel trim clips (push-pin retainers) × 6 — OEM door panel push-pin clip — replace any that break on removal
  • Door panel (if replacing) × 1 — OEM Cybertruck front door interior trim panel — match side (LH/RH) and color

Preparation

  1. Park on level ground, place in P, engage parking brake.
  2. Exit ALL doors with the key fob/phone key carried at least 10 feet away from the vehicle. Wait at least 2 minutes for HV systems to fully de-energize, even on this non-HV job.
  3. Open the door you will be working on and prop it in the open position. Because the Cybertruck has electronic door releases, the door must be opened BEFORE the LV battery is disconnected.
  4. Disconnect the 48V low-voltage battery per Tesla service procedure (located under the front trunk/frunk tray). Wear insulated gloves — this is a 48V system, not 12V.
  5. DO NOT touch, cut, or pierce ANY orange cable — these are high-voltage and lethal.
  6. If at any point you encounter an orange cable, an HV component, or are unsure if a system is de-energized: STOP and consult a Tesla-certified technician.
  7. Lower the window approximately 2 inches (do this BEFORE disconnecting the LV battery) to give clearance for the upper belt-line trim and to keep the glass out of the way.
  8. Lay a soft blanket on the seat and floor below the door to catch the panel and protect interior surfaces.

Procedure

  1. 1
Confirm door is open and LV battery is disconnected
Verify the door is propped open and the 48V LV battery is disconnected. Test by attempting to operate the window switch — it must be dead. If the window still operates, stop and re-verify the LV disconnect.
  2. 2
Release the interior door-pull / armrest trim insert
Using a wide nylon trim tool, gently pry up the soft-touch insert at the bottom of the armrest pull cup. Start at the rear inboard corner where the gap is largest and work forward. This insert hides two fasteners that secure the door card to the inner door structure.
Pry only against the trim insert itself, never against the stainless door frame.
  3. 3
Remove the fasteners hidden under the armrest insert
Remove the two Torx fasteners now exposed at the base of the pull cup. These secure the lower half of the door card to the door's inner sheet structure. Set them aside on a magnetic tray.

  4. 4
Release the switch pack / door-release control module
Using a narrow trim tool, gently lift the front edge of the upper switch panel (window switches and, on driver side, mirror and electronic door-release controls). It is retained by spring clips at the front and a hooked tab at the rear. Lift to release the clips, then slide rearward slightly to free the hook.
The electronic door-release switch is wired into a safety-critical circuit. Do not yank — let the harness give you slack before disconnecting.
  5. 5
    Disconnect switch-pack harnesses
Lift the switch pack out of its pocket. Press the locking tab on each connector (typically 2-3 connectors: window switches, ambient/courtesy lighting, and the electronic door-release on the driver door) and unplug. Lay the freed switch pack aside on a clean cloth.
  6. 6
Check for any fasteners revealed under the switch-pack pocket
Inspect the empty switch-pocket recess for any additional Torx fasteners securing the upper portion of the door card. If present, remove them.

  7. 7
Release the speaker grille / tweeter trim if separately retained
If the upper tweeter or A-pillar-side trim piece on the door card is a separate molding, release it now using a narrow trim tool, working from the rear edge forward. Many Cybertruck door cards have an integrated grille — if it does not lift independently with light pressure, leave it in place; it will come off with the panel.
  8. 8
Release the door card from its perimeter clips
Insert a wide trim tool between the door card and the door's inner panel along the lower edge. Working from the front-lower corner, pop each push-pin clip free with steady outward pressure. Move to the rear-lower corner, then up the rear vertical edge, then up the front vertical edge. Do NOT lift upward yet — the panel hooks over the belt-line trim at the top and must be released laterally first.
Plan on replacing any clip that cracks. Reusing a damaged clip causes rattles and loose panels. Inspect each one as it releases.
  9. 9
Lift the door card up and off the belt-line
Once all perimeter clips are free, lift the door card straight up approximately 1-2 inches to disengage the upper hooks from the inside belt-line weather strip. Tilt the bottom of the panel outward, away from the door, and support its weight — do not let it hang on the remaining harnesses.
  10. 10
Disconnect remaining harnesses behind the panel
With the panel tilted away from the door, reach behind it and disconnect: the mid-range door speaker connector, any ambient LED lighting connector, and any remaining accessory connectors. Press the locking tab on each before pulling. Disengage the inside courtesy/puddle light harness clip from the panel if equipped. Set the panel face-down on the blanket-covered seat.
Never let the panel hang by a connector — the wires and locking tabs are not load-bearing.
  11. 11
Inspect the vapor barrier and inner door
With the panel off, inspect the plastic/foam vapor barrier sealed to the inner door for tears or detached butyl. If torn, plan to reseal with butyl rope before reinstalling — a leaking vapor barrier causes water in the floor and speaker damage. Also inspect each clip retainer hole on the door for cracks or elongation.

Reassembly

  1. Replace any clips that broke or deformed during removal. Press new clips fully into their seats on the back of the door card before reinstalling.
  2. If the vapor barrier was disturbed, re-seal it with fresh butyl rope so it is continuously sealed to the inner door.
  3. Hold the door card up to the door at a slight outward tilt and reconnect the speaker, ambient lighting, and any other rear-side harnesses. Confirm each connector clicks and locks.
  4. Hook the upper edge of the door card over the belt-line first, then swing the bottom toward the door, aligning each perimeter clip with its hole.
  5. Press firmly along the perimeter at each clip location until each clip seats with an audible click. Do not slap the panel with an open hand against stainless trim.
  6. Reinstall any Torx fasteners revealed in the switch pocket and under the armrest insert. Torque the door panel screws to 2.0 Nm (1.5 lb-ft) — these thread into plastic and will strip if overtightened.
  7. Reconnect the switch-pack harnesses, verify the connectors lock, and seat the switch pack back into its pocket front-hook-first, then press down at the rear until it clicks.
  8. Snap the armrest pull-cup insert back into place, ensuring all edges are flush.
  9. Reconnect the 48V LV battery. Close and latch the door normally.

Verification

  • With the LV battery reconnected, cycle the window fully up and down using the door switch — confirm normal operation and auto-up/down behavior.
  • On the driver's door, test the electronic interior door-release button — door must release cleanly. Test the exterior release as well.
  • Test the mirror adjust and mirror fold switches (driver door) and the door lock switch.
  • Verify ambient/courtesy lighting on the door illuminates with the door open and dims appropriately.
  • Play audio with bass content and confirm the door speaker and tweeter both produce sound — no buzz or rattle from a loose clip or pinched harness.
  • Close the door and listen for rattles over a short test drive on a rough road. Any rattle usually means a missed perimeter clip or an unseated switch pack.
  • Inspect the panel-to-door gap visually — it should be uniform top to bottom with no proud edges.
