Replacement of an exterior side mirror assembly on a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast. The mirror houses heating, power adjustment, turn indicator, and camera (blind-spot/surround) electronics, and mounts to the stainless exoskeleton door structure with internal fasteners accessed after removing the door interior trim.
Warnings
⚠️This Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage system, NOT 12V. Connectors, fuses, and battery hardware differ from other Teslas. Do not assume cross-compatibility.
⚠️Never touch, cut, or pierce any orange cable. These are high-voltage (800V on Cybertruck) and lethal.
⚠The stainless steel exoskeleton dents and scratches differently than painted body panels. Do NOT strike with a hammer or pry directly against stainless edges. Tape off contact areas.
⚠Steer-by-wire vehicle: do not rotate the yoke or attempt to 'center' the wheels manually with the LV battery disconnected. Mirror replacement should not affect steering, but avoid input to the yoke during the procedure.
ℹ️Mirror houses cameras used by Autopilot/surround view. After replacement, camera calibration may be required via Tesla service tooling.
Tools required
Plastic trim/panel removal tool setEssential
Torx bit set (T20–T30)Essential
Metric socket set (8–13 mm)Essential
1/4" drive torque wrench (2–25 Nm range)Essential
Insulated gloves (low-voltage rated)
Painter's tape (to protect stainless panel edges)
Microfiber towels / soft work blanket
Parts
- Side mirror assembly (Cybertruck-specific, left or right as required) × 1 — Tesla OEM Cybertruck side mirror assembly — verify side and option content (heat, power fold, camera, indicator)
- Door panel retention clips (replace any damaged on removal) × 1 — OEM-spec door trim clips
Preparation
- Park on level ground, place in P, and engage the parking brake.
- Exit ALL doors with the key fob away from the vehicle. Wait at least 2 minutes for HV systems to fully de-energize, even on this non-HV job.
- Disconnect the 48V low-voltage battery per Tesla Cybertruck procedure (location and terminals differ from 12V Teslas — refer to Tesla Service Manual). Insulate the disconnected terminal to prevent accidental contact.
- Do NOT touch, cut, or pierce any orange cable. If you encounter an orange cable, an HV component, or are unsure if a system is de-energized: STOP and consult a Tesla-certified technician.
- Lower the affected door's window fully before disconnecting LV power (eases access to the mirror's interior fasteners).
- Confirm replacement mirror matches option content of the original (heated, power fold, camera, turn indicator).
- Apply painter's tape along the stainless door upper edge and the sail panel area to prevent scratches during removal.
Procedure
- 1Remove interior door sail/triangle trimUsing a plastic trim tool, gently release the interior triangular sail trim at the front-upper corner of the door panel where the mirror mounts internally. Work clips loose evenly to avoid breaking them. Set trim aside on a soft surface.⚠Pry only against plastic-to-plastic interfaces. Do not pry against the stainless exoskeleton.
- 2Access mirror harness connectorWith the sail trim removed, locate the mirror's electrical connector on the inner door structure. Release the connector lock tab and disconnect. Inspect the connector for moisture or corrosion.
- 3Support the mirror externallyHave an assistant support the mirror from outside the vehicle, or use padded support, so it does not fall once fasteners are removed. The mirror assembly is heavier than a typical car mirror due to integrated cameras, motors, and heater.⚠An unsupported mirror can fall and damage the stainless door skin or break the harness as it pulls through the grommet.
- 4Remove mirror mounting fastenersFrom inside the door (through the sail trim opening), remove the mirror's mounting fasteners. There are typically three fasteners securing the mirror base to the door structure. Note fastener orientation and any shims/spacers used for alignment.Torque specMounting Bolts27 Nm (20 lb-ft)
- 5Feed harness through grommet and remove mirrorCarefully feed the mirror's wiring harness and connector outward through the door grommet while an assistant lifts the mirror assembly away from the door. Do not pull the harness — guide it gently to avoid damaging the grommet seal.ℹ️If the grommet pulls out with the harness, that is normal — reseat it during reassembly to maintain a watertight seal.
- 6Inspect mounting surface and door sealWipe down the mirror mounting pad and inspect the foam/rubber gasket between mirror base and door. Confirm no debris is trapped. Check that the door structure mounting threads are clean and undamaged.
- 7Position new mirror assemblyFeed the new mirror's harness through the door grommet from outside, then seat the mirror base onto the mounting pad. Ensure the gasket sits flat and the mirror is fully seated against the door.
- 8Install and torque mirror mounting fastenersHand-thread all mounting fasteners before torquing. Tighten in a cross or even pattern in two stages to ensure the gasket compresses uniformly. Final-torque to specification.⚠Over-torquing can crack the mirror base casting or distort the door inner panel. Use a calibrated torque wrench.Torque specMounting Bolts27 Nm (20 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorMate the mirror harness connector to the vehicle harness until the lock tab clicks. Confirm full engagement. Reseat the harness grommet into the door if displaced, ensuring its sealing lip is fully home.
- 10Reinstall interior sail trimAlign the sail trim clips with the door panel receivers and press firmly into place until each clip seats. Replace any clips that were damaged during removal.
Reassembly
- Remove protective tape from the stainless door edges.
- Reconnect the 48V low-voltage battery per Tesla procedure and torque the terminal hardware to specification — refer to Tesla Service Manual for the exact battery terminal torque on the Cybertruck 48V system.
- Close all doors and allow the vehicle to fully wake up.
- Cycle the ignition (touch brake) and wait for vehicle systems to initialize.
Verification
- Confirm power mirror adjust functions in all directions (up/down/left/right) from the touchscreen mirror control.
- Confirm power fold/unfold operation if equipped.
- Confirm mirror heater operation (activates with rear defrost on most Teslas) by feeling for warmth after a few minutes.
- Confirm turn indicator LED in the mirror housing illuminates with the turn signal.
- Verify side/blind-spot camera image appears correctly on the center display when signaling — image should be properly oriented and not warped or offset.
- Drive the vehicle briefly and watch for Autopilot/Lane Assist warnings or camera-related alerts on the display. If any camera calibration alert appears, the mirror cameras likely require recalibration via Tesla service tooling — schedule a service appointment.
- Inspect the mirror-to-door seam for even gasket compression and no water-intrusion gaps; spray-test with a hose if available.
- Note: side mirror replacement is not on a Tesla scheduled service interval, but while the LV battery was disconnected, this is a good time to verify the 48V battery's age — Cybertruck LV batteries are not 'lifetime' items and should be inspected periodically.
