Parts
- Driver side headlight assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Passenger side headlight assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off all lights and remove key from ignition
- Allow headlights and engine to cool for at least 30 minutes if recently operated
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
Procedure
- 1Remove driver side upper grille coverLocate the plastic grille cover above the driver side headlight. Remove the plastic clips by pulling straight up or using a trim removal tool. Set cover and clips aside in a safe location.
- 2Disconnect driver side electrical connectorsLocate the three electrical connectors on the back of the driver side headlight assembly (low beam, high beam, and turn signal/DRL). Press the release tab on each connector and pull straight back to disconnect. For twist-lock bulb sockets, rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn before removing.⚠Do not pull on wires; always grip the connector body to avoid damaging wiring harness
- 3Remove driver side headlight mounting boltsLocate the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the headlight assembly: one on top toward the center, one on top toward the fender, and one accessible from the side near the fender. Use a 10mm socket with extension to remove all three bolts completely. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.
- 4Remove driver side headlight assemblyGently pull the headlight assembly forward and away from the vehicle. The assembly is secured by alignment pins on the backside that fit into rubber grommets. Rock the assembly slightly if needed to disengage pins. Carefully lift assembly clear of the vehicle and set on a clean, padded surface.
- 5Remove passenger side upper grille coverRepeat the removal process for the passenger side grille cover. Remove plastic clips and set aside with driver side components.
- 6Disconnect passenger side electrical connectorsDisconnect all three electrical connectors from the passenger side headlight assembly using the same method as driver side. Press release tabs and pull connectors straight back from bulb housings.
- 7Remove passenger side headlight mounting boltsRemove the three 10mm mounting bolts from the passenger side headlight assembly in the same locations as driver side. Use appropriate extension length to access all bolt locations.
- 8Remove passenger side headlight assemblyPull the passenger side headlight assembly forward, disengaging the alignment pins from their grommets. Remove assembly completely from vehicle and place on clean, protected surface.
- 9Transfer bulbs to new assemblies (if applicable)If new headlight assemblies do not include bulbs, transfer bulbs from old assemblies to new ones. Rotate bulb sockets counterclockwise to remove, then install into new assemblies by rotating clockwise until locked. Handle halogen bulbs with clean gloves or cloth to avoid touching glass.
- 10Install new driver side headlight assemblyAlign the new driver side headlight assembly with the mounting location, ensuring alignment pins engage with rubber grommets in the body. Push assembly rearward until it seats flush with surrounding bodywork. Thread in all three 10mm mounting bolts by hand first.
- 11Torque driver side mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the three driver side headlight mounting bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb-ft). Tighten in a star pattern if possible, starting with top center bolt, then side bolt, then top fender bolt.⚠Do not overtighten mounting bolts as headlight housing tabs can crackTorque specMounting Bolts34 Nm (25 lb-ft)
- 12Reconnect driver side electrical connectorsReconnect all three electrical connectors to the driver side headlight assembly. Push each connector straight in until you hear or feel a positive click. For twist-lock bulb sockets, insert and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until locked.
- 13Install new passenger side headlight assemblyPosition the new passenger side headlight assembly, engaging alignment pins with rubber grommets. Push assembly into place until flush with body panels. Hand-thread all three 10mm mounting bolts.
- 14Torque passenger side mounting boltsTorque the three passenger side headlight mounting bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb-ft) using the same tightening sequence as driver side.⚠Ensure even torque application to prevent housing stress or misalignmentTorque specMounting Bolts34 Nm (25 lb-ft)
- 15Reconnect passenger side electrical connectorsConnect all three electrical connectors to the passenger side headlight assembly, ensuring positive engagement clicks for each connector.
- 16Reinstall grille coversReinstall both driver and passenger side upper grille covers. Align clips with mounting holes and press firmly until clips snap into place. Verify covers are seated evenly and securely.
Reassembly
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully engaged and locked
- Confirm headlight assemblies are flush with surrounding body panels
- Check that all mounting bolts are torqued to specification
- Ensure grille covers are properly clipped and seated
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and test all headlight functions: low beams, high beams, turn signals, and DRL/running lights on both sides
- Walk around vehicle to verify both headlight assemblies are properly aligned and not protruding or recessed
- Check for any gaps between headlight assemblies and adjacent body panels
- Verify no warning lights appear on instrument cluster related to headlight malfunction
- Test headlight aim on a flat surface or wall at night; adjust aim if necessary using adjustment screws on back of assemblies
