Unable to Bleed Up Fuel Tank Vacuum
on 2018 Lincoln MKX 2.7L V6 EcoBoost · AWD
What this code means
The EVAP running loss monitor has detected excessive vacuum in the fuel tank. The system is unable to relieve the vacuum, which can be caused by a stuck canister vent solenoid, blocked EVAP hoses, or a stuck fuel filler cap. Very common on Ford vehicles with capless fuel systems.
Symptoms
- Check Engine Light
- Possible difficulty refueling
- Hard starts after refueling
- Slow fuel fill
- Possible stalling in cold weather
Common causes
- Canister vent solenoid stuck closed (most common)
- EVAP purge valve stuck open
- Kinked or collapsed hose between canister and fuel tank
- Stuck fuel filler cap
- Capless fuel filler flap sticking
- Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor
- Contaminated charcoal canister
- Plugged vent valve filter
Diagnostic steps
- Check fuel tank pressure sensor voltage (should be ~2.6V KOEO; if lower, remove gas cap to see if voltage rises)
- Inspect canister vent solenoid for proper operation
- Check EVAP purge valve — command closed with scan tool and verify
- Inspect all EVAP hoses for kinks or collapse
- Check fuel filler cap or capless filler for proper operation
Repair notes
Replace canister vent solenoid (most common fix, ~$24 part). Check for stuck purge valve. Inspect hoses for kinks.
