CAN Link ECM/ABS Circuit Fault

What this code means

The Controller Area Network (CAN) communication link between the Engine Control Module and the ABS module has a fault. The modules cannot exchange data properly.

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light
  • ABS warning light
  • Traction control disabled
  • Possible limp mode

Common causes

  • Damaged CAN bus wiring
  • Faulty ABS module
  • Faulty PCM
  • Corroded CAN connector
  • CAN bus termination issue

Diagnostic steps

  1. Check for ABS DTCs as well
  2. Inspect CAN bus wiring for damage
  3. Test CAN bus resistance (should be ~60 ohms between CAN-H and CAN-L)
  4. Check connectors at PCM and ABS module
