Wiring

Part of throttle body connector: TP1 signal (Gray/White), TP2 signal (Brown/White), 5V reference (Red/White), ground (Black/White), motor control wires

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
0.45V to 0.95V
At Higher RPM
4.2V to 4.7V

Expected Pattern

Two independent linear voltage signals (TP1 and TP2) that move in opposite relationship; TP1 increases from ~0.7V to ~4.5V as throttle opens, TP2 decreases from ~4.3V to ~0.9V

Known-Good Waveform

Two smooth, linear voltage traces moving in opposite directions with no glitches or steps. At closed throttle (idle), TP1 should read 0.6-0.9V and TP2 should read 4.0-4.5V. The sum of both sensors should equal approximately 5V throughout the entire sweep. No dropouts, spikes, or flat spots during smooth throttle movement.

Common Failure Patterns

Erratic voltage spikes, dropouts, or steps in the voltage trace during smooth throttle movement
Cause: Carbon buildup on throttle blade causing binding, worn throttle shaft bushings, or internal potentiometer track wear
Related DTCs: P2101, P2111, P2112, P2135
TP1 and TP2 correlation errors, signals not moving in proper inverse relationship or sum not equaling 5V
Cause: Internal sensor circuit failure, water intrusion into throttle body connector, or PCM detection of rationality fault
Related DTCs: P2135, P2138
Throttle position stuck at one voltage or very limited range of motion
Cause: Failed throttle actuator motor, mechanical binding from carbon deposits, or return spring failure in throttle body
Related DTCs: P2101, P2106, P2110

Diagnostic Tips

EcoBoost throttle bodies are prone to carbon buildup from direct injection and turbo oil vapor; perform throttle relearn after cleaning. Do not use aggressive cleaners that can damage coating. Ford requires throttle body relearn procedure using IDS or equivalent scan tool after replacement or battery disconnect.
