Pins
2-pin connector
Idle Frequency
46.67 Hz
Timebase
20ms/div
Voltage Scale
5V/div
Trigger
0V, rising edge

Wiring

Gray/Yellow (signal) and Black (signal return/ground)

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
-1.5V to 1.5V
At Higher RPM
-12V to 12V

Expected Pattern

36-1 tooth pattern with one missing tooth for TDC reference, creates 35 AC sine waves per revolution with visible gap where the missing tooth occurs

Known-Good Waveform

At idle (700 RPM), expect clean AC sine waves at approximately 3V peak-to-peak with consistent amplitude and frequency. The missing tooth gap should be clearly visible and occur once per crankshaft revolution. Voltage amplitude increases proportionally with engine speed, reaching 8-15V peak-to-peak at higher RPM.

Common Failure Patterns

Erratic amplitude variation, inconsistent peak voltages, or weak signal below 1V at idle
Cause: Sensor air gap too large (should be 0.020-0.059 inches), debris on reluctor wheel, or weak internal magnet
Related DTCs: P0335, P0336
Complete loss of waveform or extremely low voltage output
Cause: Open circuit in sensor winding, corroded connector pins, or damaged wire harness
Related DTCs: P0335
Noisy signal with high-frequency interference superimposed on waveform
Cause: Damaged reluctor wheel teeth, excessive runout, or electromagnetic interference from aftermarket accessories
Related DTCs: P0336

Diagnostic Tips

The Coyote 5.0L is very sensitive to air gap issues; verify reluctor wheel runout and sensor mounting. Check for oil leaks that may have contaminated the sensor area, as this is a common issue on these engines.
