Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
2015 Jeep Wrangler Β· 3.6L V6
Sensor Type
piezoresistive
Waveform Type
dc-variable
Location
Mounted on intake manifold plenum, top center between cylinder banks
Pins
3-pin connector
Timebase
100ms/div
Voltage Scale
1V/div
Trigger
N/A - DC measurement
Wiring
Black/Light Blue (ground), Violet/White (5V reference), Dark Green/Red (signal)
Expected Voltage Range
At Idle
0.9V to 1.8V
At Higher RPM
4.3V to 4.7V
Expected Pattern
DC voltage inversely proportional to engine vacuum, 1.0-1.8V at idle (high vacuum), rising to 4.5V at WOT (atmospheric pressure), with slight pulsations at idle from intake pulses
Known-Good Waveform
MAP sensor should read 4.5-4.7V with key-on engine-off (KOEO) at sea level, representing atmospheric pressure. At idle with engine warm, expect 1.0-1.8V depending on load and altitude. Slight oscillations of 50-150mV at idle frequency are normal due to intake pulsations. Signal should respond immediately to throttle changes.
Common Failure Patterns
Voltage stuck at 4.5V regardless of engine vacuum
Cause: Ruptured internal diaphragm in MAP sensor or disconnected vacuum reference
Erratic voltage fluctuations exceeding 0.5V or signal dropout
Cause: Intermittent connection at sensor connector or damaged signal wire
Diagnostic Tips
The 3.6L Pentastar uses MAP sensor primarily for barometric correction and load calculation during acceleration. Compare MAP reading to calculated engine load on scan tool; verify 5V reference is stable. TSB 18-055-14 addresses MAP sensor connector corrosion issues causing intermittent stalling.
