Wiring

Violet/White (signal to PCM) and Black/Light Blue (sensor ground), part of MAF sensor connector

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
1.5V to 4.5V
At Higher RPM
1.5V to 4.5V

Expected Pattern

Steady DC voltage inversely proportional to intake air temperature, negative temperature coefficient

Known-Good Waveform

At ambient temperature of 68Β°F, expect 2.5-3.0V. Voltage decreases as intake air warms from engine heat or hot weather conditions. Signal should be stable without fluctuations, typically reading 1.5-2.5V at normal operating conditions with heat-soaked engine.

Common Failure Patterns

Fixed voltage at 4.9-5.0V regardless of temperature
Cause: Open circuit in IAT sensor element or broken wire in MAF harness
Related DTCs: P0112, P0113
Voltage reading near 0V constant
Cause: Short to ground in sensor circuit or internal sensor failure
Related DTCs: P0112
Unrealistic temperature readings or slow response to temperature changes
Cause: Contaminated sensor element from oil vapors or dirt buildup on sensor tip
Related DTCs: P0111

Diagnostic Tips

On JK Wranglers, IAT sensor is integral to the MAF sensor and cannot be replaced separately. Contamination from aftermarket oiled air filters is common and can cause erratic readings. Never use carburetor cleaner on MAF/IAT; use only MAF-specific cleaner.
