Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
2017 Toyota Camry Β· 2.5L I4
Sensor Type
piezoresistive
Waveform Type
dc-variable
Location
Mounted on intake manifold top, center-rear area near throttle body or integrated into throttle body assembly
Pins
3-pin connector
Timebase
500ms/div for snap throttle test
Voltage Scale
1V/div
Trigger
N/A - DC signal observation
Wiring
5V reference (red/yellow), Ground (brown/black), MAP signal output (blue/white or green/white)
Expected Voltage Range
At Idle
1V to 1.8V
At Higher RPM
4.2V to 4.7V
Expected Pattern
Smooth DC voltage reflecting manifold vacuum, drops with increased vacuum, rises with throttle opening
Known-Good Waveform
At idle with engine warm, MAP sensor should read 1.2-1.6V corresponding to 16-20 inHg vacuum. Key on engine off voltage should be 4.3-4.6V indicating atmospheric pressure. During snap throttle, voltage should quickly rise to near 4.5V and smoothly return to idle vacuum reading. Signal should be stable with minimal noise, less than 0.05V ripple.
Common Failure Patterns
Idle voltage above 2.0V indicating low vacuum reading
Cause: Vacuum leak in intake manifold, brake booster line, or PCV system
KOEO voltage not between 4.3-4.6V or significantly different from barometric pressure
Cause: Failed MAP sensor element or restricted vacuum reference port
Diagnostic Tips
2AR-FE uses MAP sensor for barometric pressure reference and load calculation in conjunction with MAF. Compare KOEO reading to local barometric pressure; difference over 0.3V indicates sensor drift. Verify 5V reference voltage is stable at sensor connector.
