Intake Air Temperature Sensor
2018 Toyota Camry · 2.5L I4
Sensor Type
thermistor
Waveform Type
dc-variable
Location
Integrated into Mass Air Flow sensor housing on intake tube, approximately 6 inches after air filter box
Pins
2-pin connector
Timebase
2s/div for monitoring temperature changes
Voltage Scale
1V/div
Trigger
Not applicable for DC signal
Wiring
Light Blue/Black wire (signal to ECM pin T14), Brown wire (sensor ground shared with MAF)
Expected Voltage Range
At Idle
1.5V to 3.5V
At Higher RPM
1.5V to 3.5V
Expected Pattern
Negative temperature coefficient - voltage decreases as intake air warms, typical ambient start at 2.0-3.0V (68°F)
Known-Good Waveform
At ambient temperature (68°F), expect 2.0-2.7V. Under hood heat soak can raise temperature to 140°F+ showing 0.8-1.2V. Signal should be smooth and stable with no fluctuations. During highway driving, intake temps drop and voltage rises toward ambient temperature values.
Common Failure Patterns
Voltage fixed at 4.8-5.0V
Cause: Open circuit IAT element within MAF sensor housing, broken wire
Related DTCs: P0113
Voltage reads 0-0.3V constantly
Cause: Short to ground in IAT circuit, failed thermistor shorted internally
Related DTCs: P0112
Intermittent reading or voltage dropouts
Cause: Corroded MAF connector pins, damaged wiring at connector C/MAF 6-pin connector
Related DTCs: P0114
Diagnostic Tips
IAT is integral to the Denso MAF sensor and cannot be replaced separately - entire MAF assembly must be replaced if IAT fails. Verify 5V reference and good ground at MAF connector. At 68°F, IAT resistance should be 2.2-2.6kΩ.
