Wiring

White (heater positive), Black (heater ground), Blue (Ip signal), Gray (VS/COM signal)

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
3V to 3.3V
At Higher RPM
2.7V to 3.6V

Expected Pattern

Relatively stable DC voltage around 3.3V during closed-loop operation at stoichiometric, with small rapid fluctuations (0.1-0.2V) as ECU trims fuel

Known-Good Waveform

Air-fuel ratio sensor maintains steady voltage near 3.3V at stoichiometric (14.7:1) during closed loop operation with minimal variation (Β±0.15V). Voltage shifts smoothly and quickly to 2.7-2.9V during acceleration enrichment and 3.5-3.7V during deceleration lean conditions. Response time to forced rich/lean changes should be under 100ms.

Common Failure Patterns

Voltage stuck at one level (typically 3.3V) without responding to fuel mixture changes
Cause: Failed sensor element, contaminated sensing element from oil consumption or silicone, or internal circuit failure
Related DTCs: P0030, P0031, P0032, P0133
Lazy response, taking over 200ms to react to snap throttle tests or propane enrichment
Cause: Aging sensor element or carbon contamination on sensor tip
Related DTCs: P0133, P0134
Heater circuit resistance out of range or no heater activity
Cause: Failed internal heater element, common failure on high-mileage vehicles (100k+ miles)
Related DTCs: P0030, P0031, P0032

Diagnostic Tips

This is an air-fuel ratio sensor (AFR/wideband), not a traditional narrowband O2 sensor - do not expect 0-1V switching. Heater resistance should be 3.0-4.0 ohms at room temperature. Check for oil consumption issues as this engine can have oil burning issues affecting sensor life.
