ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
2022 Toyota Camry Β· 2.5L I4
Sensor Type
hall-effect
Waveform Type
ac-sine
Location
Four sensors - one at each wheel hub behind brake rotor, secured to steering knuckle (front) or axle beam/trailing arm (rear)
Pins
2-pin connector
Timebase
5ms/div at 25 MPH
Voltage Scale
500mV/div
Trigger
0.5V, rising edge
Wiring
Front: White/Black (signal +), Black (signal -). Rear: Blue/Yellow (signal +), Black (signal -). Colors vary by specific wheel position.
Expected Voltage Range
At Idle
0V to 0V
At Higher RPM
0.3V to 2.5V
Expected Pattern
Active sensor producing clean sine wave AC voltage at 25-35 MPH, approximately 200-350 Hz, amplitude increases with wheel speed
Known-Good Waveform
Clean sinusoidal waveform with consistent amplitude and frequency that increases proportionally with wheel speed. At 25 MPH, expect approximately 250-300 Hz with 0.8-1.5V peak-to-peak. All four sensors should show nearly identical frequency at same vehicle speed with symmetrical positive and negative peaks.
Common Failure Patterns
No signal output, flatline at all speeds
Cause: Failed hall-effect sensor element, no power/ground to sensor, damaged wiring
Erratic signal with missing teeth or amplitude variation
Cause: Excessive bearing play, damaged tone ring, debris buildup on sensor tip, loose sensor mounting
Diagnostic Tips
These are active sensors requiring 12V power and ground from ABS module. Check for 10-14V on power wire with key on. Sensor air gap is not adjustable - set by sensor design. If signal is weak, check wheel bearing for play as excessive endplay changes air gap.
