Smooth DC voltage that increases linearly with airflow, no oscillation or steps
Known-Good Waveform
Hot-wire MAF produces smooth DC voltage starting at 0.8-1.3V at idle (corresponding to 2-4 g/s airflow) and rising smoothly to 2.5-4.2V at wide-open throttle. Voltage should track precisely with throttle opening and show no jitter, steps, or dropouts. Signal should return smoothly to idle voltage during deceleration.
Common Failure Patterns
Voltage reading stuck at 1.0V or erratic jumping, does not respond smoothly to throttle input
Cause: Contaminated hot-wire element from oil vapor or dirt, requires cleaning or replacement
Diagnostic Tips
2ZR-FE is sensitive to MAF contamination from aftermarket oiled air filters - verify OEM paper filter use. Compare live voltage to calculated airflow in grams/second using scan tool; should be 2.5-3.5 g/s at warm idle. Never touch sensing element.
