⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and parking brake is engaged
- Turn the ignition to ON/ACC position if 12V power is available (do not start the engine)
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Locate the shift lock override access—on the A110, look for a small rectangular cover or slot near the base of the shifter on the left side of the shifter boot
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover
- Insert the screwdriver into the shift lock override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down and keeping the brake pressed, press the shifter button (if equipped) and move the shifter from Park to Neutral
- Remove the screwdriver and replace the override cover
- The vehicle can now be moved or loaded onto a flatbed
Shift-lock override location
Look for a small rectangular cover near the left side base of the shifter boot/surround; the override slot is typically within 1-2 inches of the shifter lever base
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock solenoid should mechanically default to locked. The shift lock override slot provides mechanical access to release the lock without power. Insert a screwdriver into the override slot and apply firm downward pressure while moving the shifter. This should mechanically release the park pawl lock. If this does not work, the A110's rear-mid engine layout may require specialist access to the transaxle park mechanism.
