🚨 2025 BAIC X35: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 BAIC X35 uses a traditional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly engaged
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any remaining charge
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot - typically a small rectangular cap or cover near the shifter base on the right side or front of the shifter assembly
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter button and moving to Neutral
  6. If successful, the shifter should move freely to Neutral; keep pressure on the override release throughout the movement
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cap near the shifter base, likely on the right side or front of the console shifter assembly - exact position may vary; inspect around the shifter perimeter for a removable cap approximately 10-15mm in size
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift lock override is mechanical and should still function. You may need to manually unlock the steering column first if it's locked. Ensure you have a tool (flathead screwdriver or similar) to access the override slot. The override mechanism does not require electrical power.
