🚨 1994 Chevrolet C10: Emergency Neutral
The 1994 C10 designation is extremely rare (most were C1500 by this year); vehicles use a GMT400 column-mounted shifter with cable-operated transmission linkage.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if you have any battery power (this energizes the shift lock solenoid)
- Press the brake pedal firmly while pulling down on the column shifter - if the shift lock releases, move to Neutral
- If the shifter won't move (dead battery or failed brake switch), locate the shift lock override - look for a small slot or rubber-covered access point at the base of the shifter lever where it meets the steering column
- Remove any rubber cover and insert a small screwdriver or trim tool into the override slot
- Press the override mechanism while simultaneously pulling the shifter toward you and down into Neutral
- If the override is inaccessible or doesn't work, access the transmission shift linkage from underneath the truck - the shift cable attaches to a lever on the driver's side of the transmission; manually move this lever to Neutral (second detent from the rearmost Park position)
Shift-lock override location
Small slot or rubber-covered access near the base of the column shifter lever where it enters the steering column shroud; typically on the right side or underside of the shifter base, but exact location varies
With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, use the shift lock override slot by pressing the release while operating the shifter. If this fails or you cannot locate the override, go underneath the truck and manually operate the transmission shift lever directly - it's on the driver's side of the transmission, and Neutral is the second detent position from full rear (Park).
