🚨 2026 Chevrolet Cruze BR: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Chevrolet Cruze BR (Brazilian market) uses a traditional PRNDL console-mounted shifter lever with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small covered slot near the base of the shifter assembly on the left side
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the small plastic cover over the override slot
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if power available) and moving the shifter to Neutral
  6. If successful, the shifter will release and move to N position
  7. If the vehicle must be moved a long distance, be prepared to use a flatbed or tow dolly

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the override slot will still function mechanically. No ignition position is required - simply remove the cover, insert tool into override slot, press down firmly, and shift to Neutral. The steering wheel will remain locked, so the vehicle can only roll straight and must be pushed or winched onto a flatbed.
