🚨 2026 Citroën C4: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 C4 uses an electronic monostable (self-centering) shift lever or electronic gear selector that returns to center position after each input.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is engaged and wheels are chocked
- If the 12V battery has any charge, turn the ignition to ON (press start button without brake pedal twice)
- Press the brake pedal and attempt to shift to Neutral using the electronic shifter
- If the electronic shifter does not respond due to complete power loss, locate the manual shift lock release—check in the center console storage area or underneath a small cover panel near the shifter base
- Remove the cover and insert a screwdriver or similar tool into the release slot while attempting to manipulate the shifter mechanism
- With modern Citroëns, if completely dead with electronic parking brake applied, the vehicle may not release without jump-starting or external power
Shift-lock override location
Typically near the shifter base in the center console, under a small removable cover panel—exact location requires inspection as Citroën documentation varies by market
With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, the electronic shifter and electronic parking brake may both be inoperable. A jump start or external power source is often required. If the electronic parking brake (EPB) is engaged and cannot be released, the vehicle cannot roll and must be flatbedded with wheel dollies or dragged onto the flatbed.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
If this is a plug-in hybrid or e-C4 electric variant, do NOT attempt to tow with drive wheels on the ground. Flatbed transport only. Consult the owner's manual for the specific 12V battery location (often under hood or in trunk) for jump-starting to regain electronic control.
