🚨 2016 Dodge Ram 3500: Emergency Neutral
The 2016 Ram 3500 uses a traditional column-mounted shift lever with a shift-lock button on the lever that must be depressed to move out of Park.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position (if battery has enough charge)
- Locate the shift-lock override access: look for a small removable cap or cover on the column shroud directly below and to the right of the shift lever base
- Remove the cap using a small flathead screwdriver or by prying gently with your fingers
- Insert a small screwdriver, pen, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the lever to Neutral
- If the battery is completely dead and ignition cannot be turned on, you may need to access the override mechanically (see noPowerNotes)
Shift-lock override location
Small cap on the column shroud below and to the right of the shift lever base; exact location may require inspection as it can be integrated into the shroud seam
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the steering column lock will engage and the shift interlock may be harder to override. Attempt the override slot method first. If this fails, you will need to jump-start the battery with a portable jump pack or another vehicle to get enough power to turn the ignition to ACC, which releases the shift lock. The override is mechanical but requires at least ACC position for full functionality. As a last resort for flatbed loading, the truck can be dollied or winched with wheels chocked.
