🚨 2024 Ferrari Portofino: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Ferrari Portofino uses a traditional automatic transmission gate-style shifter lever located on the center console with a shift-lock mechanism.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake (if functional).
  2. If the battery has any charge, turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Locate the shift-lock override slot—it is a small covered opening near the base of the shifter assembly on the console.
  5. Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the plastic cap covering the override slot.
  6. Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter out of Park into Neutral.
  7. If no electrical power is available at all, proceed directly to the override slot method without attempting to turn on the ignition.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or winched onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot near the base of the center console shifter assembly, typically on the left or front side of the shifter surround.
With zero electrical power
With zero battery power, the shift-lock override is the only method. Remove the cover over the override slot near the shifter base and use a tool to depress the mechanical release while moving the shifter to Neutral. The electronic parking brake may remain engaged—this may require a jump start or charging the battery to release it electronically before the vehicle can roll freely.
