🚨 2018 Ford Figo: Emergency Neutral

The 2018 Ford Figo with automatic transmission uses a floor-mounted console shifter with mechanical shift-lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and set the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON/ACC position if battery power is available
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot near the shifter base, typically covered by a small rectangular cap to the right or front of the shifter button
  4. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or your key to carefully pry off the override access cap
  5. Insert the screwdriver or a similar tool into the override slot
  6. While pressing down firmly on the tool to depress the shift-lock release, press the shifter button and move the lever to NEUTRAL
  7. Remove the tool and replace the cap once the vehicle is in neutral
Shift-lock override location
Near the shifter base on the center console, under a small rectangular cap typically to the right or front of the shift button
With zero electrical power
The shift-lock override on the Figo is typically mechanical and should work without battery power. However, you must still depress the shifter button while using the override. If the lever absolutely will not move with the override engaged, verify you are pressing both the override and the shifter button simultaneously.
