🚨 2021 Honda Shuttle: Emergency Neutral
The 2021 Honda Shuttle hybrid uses a console-mounted electronic shifter lever with shift-by-wire technology and an integrated shift lock mechanism.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Turn the ignition to ON (II) position if 12V power is available - press the START button twice without pressing the brake pedal
- Locate the shift lock override slot - it is typically under a small rectangular cap on the left side of the shifter base (driver's side of the shifter)
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the shift lock override cover cap
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral
- If successful, the shifter will move freely to N position
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or winched onto a flatbed
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular cap on the left side of the shifter base near the console; exact position may vary slightly but look around the perimeter of the shifter housing
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the hybrid system cannot be initialized and the shift lock remains engaged. You must use the mechanical shift lock override procedure. If the override does not work with zero power, the vehicle must be dragged onto a flatbed with rear wheels lifted or placed on dollies, as the transmission cannot be shifted electronically without any power.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
WARNING: Honda hybrids must be towed with all wheels OFF the ground or on a flatbed. Do NOT tow with front wheels on the ground - the electric motor is mechanically connected to the front wheels and can generate dangerous voltage when rotated, potentially damaging the hybrid system. If you must roll the vehicle a short distance for loading, keep it under 35 mph and less than 30 miles.
