🚨 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: Emergency Neutral
The 2023 Ioniq 5 N uses a column-mounted rotary shifter dial (similar to standard Ioniq 5) that requires electrical power to operate.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chocked - the electronic parking brake may not release without power
- Attempt to power up the vehicle: press the brake pedal and push the START button - even with a weak 12V battery, the system may have enough power to shift
- If the vehicle powers on, press and hold the brake pedal, rotate the shifter dial to N (neutral), then release the parking brake using the switch on the center console
- If there is NO 12V power at all, you must jump-start the 12V battery (located under the hood) or connect an external 12V power source to gain enough electrical power to release the shifter and parking brake
- Once 12V power is restored, follow step 3 to shift to neutral
- If the 12V battery cannot be revived and the vehicle must be moved immediately, it MUST be loaded onto a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground - do NOT attempt to tow with wheels on the ground
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, there is no mechanical shift lock override accessible to the driver - the rotary shifter is fully electronic. The 12V battery MUST be jump-started or replaced to shift out of Park. The electronic parking brake also requires 12V power to release.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Ioniq 5 N is a full EV with a single-speed reduction gear. NEVER tow with any wheels on the ground - the motor will generate voltage that can damage the electrical system. Use flatbed transport ONLY. If attempting to push/roll the vehicle after achieving neutral, be aware the electronic parking brake may re-engage if power is lost.
