⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Locate the shift lock override access: look for a small cap on the lower left side of the steering column shroud near where the shift lever exits the column
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or key to carefully pry off the override cap
- Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool into the exposed override hole
- While holding the tool in the override position, press the thumb button on the shift lever and move it to Neutral
- The vehicle can now roll freely; remove the tool and replace the cap once the shifter is in Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Small round or rectangular cap on the lower steering column shroud, typically on the left side near the shift lever base
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the mechanical shift lock override will still function to release the shifter to Neutral. The XG300 uses a conventional mechanical parking brake (foot pedal), which does not require electrical power to release. Once in Neutral with parking brake released, the vehicle can roll and be loaded onto a flatbed with no power.
