The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
- Locate the shift lock override slot, which is typically found near the base of the shifter—look for a small cap or cover on the console trim adjacent to the shift lever.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the shift lock override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If no power is available, continue holding the override down and manually move the shifter to Neutral—you may need to apply moderate force.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.
