🚨 2026 Lexus RX 450h: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 RX 450h uses an electronic shift-by-wire system with a small console-mounted lever that returns to center after each shift input.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is positioned directly to the left of the shifter base, covered by a small rectangular cap.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- With the brake pedal depressed (if you have 12V power), insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while moving the shifter to N.
- If you have NO electrical power, the electronic shifter will not respond to the override alone—you must jump-start the 12V auxiliary battery (located in the engine bay) to provide minimal power to the shift-by-wire system, then use the override procedure.
- Once in neutral, release the parking brake and the vehicle can roll.

With zero electrical power
The shift-by-wire system requires 12V power to function. With a completely dead auxiliary battery, you must jump-start or charge the 12V battery enough to power the shifter electronics before the override will work. The override only releases the mechanical lock, not the electronic shift control itself.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This hybrid uses electric drive and has no traditional Park pawl in many drive conditions. If the 12V battery is dead, the electric parking brake may not release and the transmission may not mechanically lock the wheels. For flatbed towing, DO NOT tow with front wheels on the ground—use a flatbed or dollies under the front wheels. Before any towing, consult the owner's manual towing section, as improper towing can destroy the hybrid transaxle. If you can restore 12V power, put the vehicle in Accessory mode and shift to N, then refer to the manual's towing instructions for extended flat-towing limits (typically very limited or prohibited).
