🚨 2025 McLaren 765LT: Emergency Neutral

The 765LT uses a conventional center console automatic shifter with a vertical gate (P-R-N-D) and a manual shift-lock release mechanism.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (if it functions).
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available; if not, skip to the no-power procedure below.
  3. Locate the shift-lock override access on the center console near the shifter base—look for a small rectangular or circular cap/cover, typically on the right side or front face of the shifter surround.
  4. Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to carefully pry off the override cap.
  5. Insert the screwdriver into the exposed override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if power is available) and moving the shifter to Neutral.
  6. If successful, the shifter will move freely to N; release the override and proceed to move the vehicle.
  7. If the electronic parking brake will not release and you need to load onto a flatbed, use wheel dollies or a flatbed with a winch—DO NOT attempt to tow with drive wheels on the ground.
Shift-lock override location
Small cap near the shifter base on the center console, typically on the right side or front face of the shifter surround; exact location may vary slightly by model year.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic systems will not function. The shift-lock override should still work mechanically—remove the cap and insert a screwdriver into the override slot, then apply firm pressure while moving the shifter. The electronic parking brake will NOT release without power, so the vehicle must be lifted or winched onto a flatbed; do not attempt to push or tow with wheels on the ground.
