⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (if it functions).
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available; if not, skip to the no-power procedure below.
- Locate the shift-lock override access on the center console near the shifter base—look for a small rectangular or circular cap/cover, typically on the right side or front face of the shifter surround.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the screwdriver into the exposed override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if power is available) and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If successful, the shifter will move freely to N; release the override and proceed to move the vehicle.
- If the electronic parking brake will not release and you need to load onto a flatbed, use wheel dollies or a flatbed with a winch—DO NOT attempt to tow with drive wheels on the ground.

With zero 12V power, the electronic systems will not function.
