The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if possible.
- If the battery has any residual power, turn the ignition to ON position (press start button without brake pedal).
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the right side of the shifter base, beneath a small rectangular cap that pries off with a flat tool.
- Remove the override cap by inserting a small flathead screwdriver or key into the slot and gently prying upward.
- Insert a small screwdriver, pen, or the mechanical key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If there is absolutely no power, you may need to jump the 12V battery minimally to energize the shifter electronics—the override alone may not mechanically release the transmission without any power.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed.
