🚨 2023 Mercedes-Benz G400d W463: Emergency Neutral

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and parking brake is firmly engaged
- Turn the ignition to ON position (press START button without brake pedal) to provide power to the shifter electronics
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Move the column shifter stalk down one position to select Neutral
- If the shifter remains locked and ignition cannot be turned on due to dead battery, access the shift lock override
Shift-lock override location
Located under a small rectangular cover cap on the right side of the column shifter housing near the steering column; pry off the cap with a small flathead screwdriver to reveal the override slot, then insert the key or small screwdriver and press down while attempting to move the shifter to Neutral
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the electronic column shifter will not function normally. Use the shift lock override slot described above. If override does not work or vehicle still cannot move freely, the transfer case may be in a locked position - this requires battery power to resolve. In this case, vehicle must be flatbed towed with all four wheels off the ground to avoid transmission and transfer case damage.
