🚨 2011 Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG: Emergency Neutral
The 2011 G55 AMG uses a traditional floor-mounted console shifter with electronic shift-lock that prevents shifting out of Park without brake pressure and ignition on.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground with the parking brake firmly applied and wheels chocked.
- Turn the ignition key to position I (accessories) if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening with a cover cap on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side of the shift gate.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the small cover cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key fully into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- Keep the tool pressed down until the shifter is fully in Neutral position.
- If the steering column is locked, turn the key in the ignition while gently rotating the steering wheel back and forth to unlock it.

Left side of the shifter base near the gate, under a small rectangular cover cap - accessed from the driver's side of the console.
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the override will still mechanically release the shifter lock. The steering lock may require the key to be in position I - if the steering remains locked and prevents rolling, the vehicle must be jumped or the battery charged enough to cycle the steering lock. Some G-Class models have a mechanical steering lock that can be stubborn when the battery is completely dead.
