🚨 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLB250 X247: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 GLB250 (X247) uses a center console-mounted electronic shifter lever with a PRND gate and electronic shift interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON/accessory position if battery power is available (press start button without brake pedal).
  3. Locate the shift lock override access—look for a small rectangular or circular cover near the shifter base, typically on the right side of the shifter.
  4. Use the mechanical key blade or a small flathead screwdriver to pry off the override cover.
  5. Insert the key or screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly.
  6. While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
  7. Release the override and verify the shifter remains in Neutral.
  8. If the electronic parking brake is engaged and non-functional, locate the manual parking brake release near the driver's footwell and release it before towing.
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot near the base of the center console shifter, typically on the right side (consult owner's manual for exact position)
With zero electrical power
With no electrical power, the electronic shifter and parking brake will not operate normally. Use the mechanical shift lock override slot as described above. The manual parking brake release (usually a pull-tab or lever near the driver's left footwell) must be used to disengage the electronic parking brake if it's applied and the battery is dead.
