🚨 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 X253: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 GLC300 is likely on the X254 platform (not X253 as indicated), featuring either column-mounted stalk shifter or updated console electronic shifter.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure vehicle is on flat ground with parking brake engaged.
  2. Attempt to power on the vehicle (press START/STOP button without brake pedal).
  3. Press the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Try to shift to N normally - if locked, locate the shift lock override.
  5. For console-mounted shifters: find the override access on the left side or front of the shifter base, remove any cover cap.
  6. For column stalk shifters: look for a small release mechanism near where the stalk meets the steering column.
  7. Insert appropriate tool (screwdriver, key blade) into override slot and press while manipulating shifter to N.
  8. Verify the transmission is in N by attempting to roll the vehicle slightly (with chocks removed briefly under controlled conditions).
  9. Vehicle can now be loaded onto flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Location varies by shifter configuration - typically left side of console shifter base or near base of column stalk. Exact location requires visual confirmation of your vehicle's specific shifter type.
With zero electrical power
Without battery power, electronic shifters cannot function normally. Use the mechanical shift lock override: remove cover, insert tool into override mechanism, press/hold while moving shifter to N position. If this fails, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed using wheel dollies or with all wheels off the ground. Never flat-tow.
