🚨 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC63 AMG: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 GLC63 AMG uses Mercedes' electronic column-mounted shifter stalk on the right side of the steering column.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position (press start button twice without brake pedal) to energize the shift system.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Move the column stalk down once (past Reverse) to shift into Neutral.
  5. If the shifter will not respond due to failed brake-light switch, locate the shift-lock override slot.
  6. The override slot is typically located near the base of the column stalk shroud or under a small removable cap on the steering column trim.
  7. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the override slot and press firmly while attempting to shift.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or winched onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the column stalk shroud, typically under a small cap on the steering column trim; consult owner's manual for exact location on this generation
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the electronic shifter will not function. The steering column must be unlocked manually (mechanical key in driver door, then turn ignition). Use the shift-lock override with a 12V jump pack connected to allow the shifter module to energize, or winch the vehicle onto a flatbed in Park with wheels free-rolling (all four wheels off ground for AWD).
