⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition to ON position (do not need to start engine)
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the shift lock release button on the shifter lever (small button near the base of the lever on the right side) while simultaneously moving the shifter to N
- If no electrical power: locate the manual shift lock override - there is a small cap or cover near the base of the shifter console
- Pry off the override cap with a flathead screwdriver
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter to N
- Do NOT attempt to shift to any gear other than N without power

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, use the manual shift lock override slot accessed under the cap near the shifter base. You will need to manually press the override while pulling the shifter to N. The DCT will be in a mechanical park position, but N will allow towing. Do NOT attempt to start or drive the vehicle.
