🚨 2014 Nissan March: Emergency Neutral

The 2014 Nissan March (K13 generation) uses a floor-mounted console shifter with electronic shift lock controlled by the brake pedal interlock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is firmly engaged
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery has any remaining charge
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot—it is a small rectangular opening with a cover cap located on the left side of the shifter base near the P position
  4. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the override cover cap
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and push down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shift lever out of Park
  6. Move the shifter to Neutral position
  7. If the vehicle must be moved any distance, keep the key in the ON position if possible so the steering wheel remains unlocked

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift lock override will still function mechanically. However, the steering wheel will remain locked. You must turn the key to ACC while applying slight rotational pressure to the steering wheel to unlock it before the vehicle can be steered onto a flatbed. The override slot works without any electrical power.
