🚨 2026 Nissan Note: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 Japanese-market Nissan Note uses an e-POWER series hybrid system with a monostable electronic shifter (returns to center after each input) on the center console.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available (press start button twice without brake pedal)
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small rectangular cover on the right side of the shifter base near the P button
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the override cover cap
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the shifter to the N (Neutral) position
- The shifter will spring back to center; verify on the instrument panel or shifter indicator that N is selected
- If the instrument cluster is dead, you must assume the override worked—release the parking brake slowly to confirm the vehicle can roll
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or towed with front wheels on the ground for short distances at low speed

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the e-POWER system cannot engage neutral electronically. You must jump-start the 12V battery (not the hybrid battery) to at least ACC power level before the shift lock override will function. Without any power, the transmission remains locked in Park and the vehicle cannot be shifted—flatbed towing with all wheels off the ground is required.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The e-POWER is a series hybrid where the gasoline engine only generates electricity and the wheels are driven by electric motor only. Even in neutral, do NOT flat-tow this vehicle for extended distances or at highway speeds—the electric motor will spin and may generate voltage with the system off, potentially damaging hybrid components. For towing beyond short repositioning (under 1 km at walking speed), use a flatbed or trailer with all four wheels off the ground.
