⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- Turn the ignition to ON/accessory mode (do not start the engine) - you need minimal electrical power for the shifter
- Press and firmly hold the brake pedal
- With the shifter in Park, locate the small shift-lock override cover near the shifter base on the console - typically a small rectangular or circular cap
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral
- If the shifter won't release, ensure you're maintaining firm pressure on both the brake pedal and the override button
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded onto a flatbed

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter cannot be operated normally. You must jump-start the 12V battery (located in engine bay) to get enough power to shift into Neutral using the override procedure. Even minimal battery voltage may allow shifter operation. If jump-starting is impossible, the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed with dollies under the front wheels.
