🚨 2018 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid: Emergency Neutral
The 2018 Cayenne S Hybrid uses a conventional center-console gear selector lever with electronic shift-by-wire and shift-lock interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (or chock all wheels if parking brake is inoperative).
- Turn the ignition to ON/Accessory mode if any battery power remains.
- Firmly press and hold the brake pedal.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular opening covered by a removable trim cap, located on the left side of the shifter base (toward the driver's side) in the center console.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the trim cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter rearward out of Park into Neutral.
- If the vehicle has absolutely no electrical power, you must provide external 12V power (jump-start or connect a battery maintainer to the jump-start posts under the hood) to energize the shift-lock solenoid before you can shift, even with the override.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter and shift-lock solenoid are completely inoperative. You MUST provide external 12V power via the underhood jump-start terminals (positive post under the hood cover, negative ground point on chassis) before the override will function. Once power is supplied, use the override procedure above.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID WARNING: The Cayenne S Hybrid high-voltage battery system can enable creep and propulsion even when you think the vehicle is 'off.' Always ensure the vehicle is in the 'READY' off state (not READY mode) before attempting any shifter override. When towing, consult the owner's manual for proper tow-mode activation (typically via the infotainment menu when power is available). If the hybrid system is faulted or unpowered, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground—do NOT tow with any wheels on the pavement, as the electric motor is mechanically connected to the drivetrain and cannot freewheel without damage.
