🚨 2022 Renault Arkana: Emergency Neutral
The 2022 Renault Arkana hybrid uses an electronic console-mounted shifter with shift-by-wire technology and a mechanical shift lock override.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and engage the electronic parking brake if possible.
- If battery power is available, press the brake pedal and press the Start button twice without pressing the brake to reach ACC or ON mode.
- Locate the shift lock override: there is a small access panel or slot near the shifter base - look for a small rectangular or circular cover on the right side or front of the shifter assembly.
- Remove the cover carefully using a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool.
- Press the brake pedal (if power available) and insert the screwdriver into the override mechanism while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral.
- With hybrid models, you may need to activate Transport Mode: with ignition ON, move shifter to Neutral, then check the vehicle settings menu or hold specific button combinations (consult owner's manual for exact procedure).
- Once in Neutral with Transport Mode active (if required), the vehicle can be carefully moved or loaded.
Shift-lock override location
Near the shifter base, typically on the right side or front of the shifter assembly under a small cover - exact location may vary by market specification
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter will not function and the shift lock may not release even with the override tool. The high-voltage hybrid battery does not help with 12V functions. The vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed using wheel dollies or skates. Do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground - hybrid transaxle damage will occur. If the 12V battery can be jump-started or temporarily powered, attempt the override procedure before resorting to flatbed-only loading.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID CRITICAL: The Arkana E-Tech hybrid has an electronically controlled transaxle. Before any towing or movement, Transport Mode must be activated (if 12V power available) to disengage the electric motor clutches. Never tow this hybrid with wheels on the ground without Transport Mode active - severe hybrid system damage will result. Flatbed transport is strongly recommended for all hybrid Arkanas.
