🚨 2026 Renault Duster: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Renault Duster uses a conventional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly engaged
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot - typically a small rectangular cover near the base of the shifter on the left or right side
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to gently pry off the override cover cap
  5. Insert the screwdriver or a key into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If no power, continue holding override down and manually shift to Neutral without brake pedal
  8. Keep override depressed until shifter is fully in Neutral position
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot typically located at the base of the shifter console, examine left and right sides of the shifter base for a small rectangular cap
With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override will still function mechanically. Use the override slot method without needing to press the brake pedal. You may need to rock the vehicle slightly to relieve transmission park pawl pressure if the shifter is difficult to move.
