The 2018 Kwid with automatic transmission uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter (AMT - automated manual transmission) with a mechanical shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position (or ACC position if battery has some charge remaining) to provide power to the shift lock solenoid.
- If the battery is completely dead or the brake light switch has failed, locate the shift lock override slot near the shifter assembly.
- The override slot is located on the console near the shifter base—look for a small rectangular or circular cap that can be pried off with a flat-head screwdriver or your fingernail.
- Remove the cap to expose the shift lock override slot.
- Insert a flat-head screwdriver, small hex key, or similar tool into the slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button (if equipped) and move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- Remove the tool and replace the cap; the vehicle can now be pushed or towed.

With zero electrical power
The Kwid's AMT shifter has a mechanical shift lock override that does not require electrical power to operate. Use the shift lock override slot as described above. With zero power and if the override slot cannot be located, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground, as the AMT transmission should not be towed with drive wheels on the ground in Park.
